Additional Track events at the Decathlon weekend

Additional Track events at the Decathlon weekend
(A great summer of athletics – your opportunity)
Please be reminded or aware of additional Track races, the Outdoor Classics, at the above Championship weekend.
Due to increased numbers of entries for the Decathlon/Heptathlon over the last few years. and the increase in the lack of facilities elsewhere, has meant we had to move to Alexander Stadium. To make full use of the Field Events facilities we have included the Throws Pentathlon Championships in this weekend and also the 10kM Track Run and Walks Championships. This however leaves the track empty during a large part of the middle of the day on Saturday.
Needing a fairly large contingent of Track Officials, including photo-finish, it was obvious we had to make use of that time and the officials expertise.
The first two years had a fairly small uptake for the various events on offer., although to be fair, this weekend has been in September, which is after the main International Championship of the year. However this year, as the WMA Championships are in Australia in October/November the British Outdoor Championships are in September, which save for VAC/SCVAC, Area Club Championships tend to be over by the end of June, there is a large gap between domestic Championships.
The Outdoor Classics being at the end of July, will be a good opportunity to check out how your training is going or gone, by getting some high class races against same age ‘friends and foes’, with electronic timings and full listings on Power of 10.
The various events, 100m, 200m, 400m, Short Hurdles, Long Hurdles and Mile, are spread over the day, partly around Decathlon/Heptathlon track events, to enable athletes to compete in more than one event, and get the most out of their trip to Birmingham. Between your events you will have a plethora of events to watch, as there is also the various groups of Throw Pentathletes competing on the Infield as well as Decathletes and Heptathletes, which also now includes an Inter Services Championship.
So have a look at the various timetables on the BMAF website, talk to your friends and gee up your foes and get entering. You are already paying for the provision of the facility and officials, as this weekend still loses money, so please make use of those expenses and use the day as part of your preparation for the National Championships in September and the Worlds in October.
Hope to see you at Alexander Stadium on 30th July.
