At our committee meeting last night (27th February), two important decisions were made of interest to members.
Firstly, we co-opted Tony Porter as our Track & Field Team Manager responsible for the teams in the Midland Veterans Track & Field Team. Tony volunteered after my appeal for someone to come forward and more details will be available very soon.
Secondly, we unanimously agreed to go ahead and join the British Masters Athletic Federation online entry system. Once set up, members will be able to pay their subscriptions online and be able to update and amend their profile themselves. Eventually, probably gradually phased in, we will also be able to offer an online entry for our events. Integrating with the BMAF means that members will not be able to enter BMAF or International events without being a paid up member.
Maintaining this online database will drastically reduce the administration work involved with membership issues and will make handovers easier to succeeding officers.
Further details will be available soon.
This is one last appeal to all 1st Claim Members of Midland Masters AC for one of you to come forward to act as a Team Manager for the Track & Field team that is due to compete in the Midland Veterans T&F League during the 2013 season. It is imperative that we have someone who can gather a team together and look after things at each event. Plenty of help will be given with regards which members are eligible to compete including those from Road Running Clubs who have registered as 1st Claim to us for T&F only. League fees are quite expensive and MMAC just cannot justify to the rest of the membership our continued participation in this league if no one comes forward. I emailed ALL 1st Claim Members on the 8th December 2012 and on the 5th February 2013 and only 50% bothered to access the email and so far no one has volunteered. I am no longer willing to spend my time on this and as a last resort I am re-producing my last email on this post below …
To: All 1st Claim Members on email and MMAC Committee
Further to Tony Crocker’s letter circulated to all 1st Claim members (email only) on the 8th December 2012. Only 50% were opened so I am hoping this email reaches more, please allow images, this is important.
This is the final appeal for a 1st Claim Member to come forward to act as a Team Manager for our Track & Field team in the Midland Veterans T&F League.
Tony Crocker has resigned from this position and in future will compete in a combined Kidderminster & Stourbridge AC/Droitwich AC team in 2013. It is extremely important that we can fill this vacancy BEFORE THE 27TH FEBRUARY 2013, which is the date of our next committee meeting and where a decision will be made whether to continue in the league.
Anyone interested will be allowed to have a full list of eligible athletes which will include the members from road running clubs who have been authorised to compete for MMAC as 1st Claim Track & Field only. They will of course get any help to get started.
This is the last chance saloon I’m afraid. If no one comes forward then we will have to pull out of the league and we will have lost the competition that your Club should give you under our constitution.
Any who feels they can help, please contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
I look forward in anticipation.

Following postponement of our Cross Country Championships, we are happy to announce that we have re-arranged for the event to take place on the 3rd February 2013. This date is the only one we could take bearing in mind other fixtures and existing commitments of the organisers/venue etc.
For members who cannot attend the re-arranged date will you please contact Irene Nicholls on email@example.com
Those members who will be able to attend on the new date, all the existing arrangements apply, please use your race numbers and age identifiers that were sent originally.
For the members who now find that the date is free for them, then please enter using the original entry form from http://tinyurl.com/axykg9r BUT send the completed form direct to:-
Irene Nicholls, Rainbow Cottage, 15 Meadow Lane, Alvechurch, BIRMINGHAM B48 7LH
We are aware that the new date will clash with certain other events but they are at a minimum compared to any alternatives and it do not clash with any large cross country events, regional or national.
The England Athletics Masters Association is holding an inaugural meeting between Masters Area Clubs and MMAC will, of course, wish to field the strongest team to cover all the events.
We have traditionally been very successful in the Outdoor challenge and, although at the time of publishing this item, we are not able to publish a definitive list of events it is obvious that we shall need sprinters, middle distance runners, throwers, jumpers and walkers.
If you would be willing to take part and interested in representing MMAC in a particular event we should be delighted to hear from you. As places are limited please provide up to date performance information so that we can choose the strongest possible squad.
Please send your information including your address, ‘phone number and email address to firstname.lastname@example.org or by post to:-

40th Anniversary Celebration
Our celebrations took place yesterday at the Tamworth AC’s headquarters. An afternoon of fun and frolics was planned by a small team headed by our current President, Adrian Lloyd.
The weather was kind and the forecast of light rain fortunately didn’t materialise. John Walker, our Road/ XC Secretary, organised a “Torch” Relay from Halesowen ( the place where it all began) to Tamworth, timed to perfection, arriving at the start of the meeting and ending with a lap of the track consisting of a genuine Olympic Torch and plethora of past Presidents.
Seconded at the last minute for timekeeping duties with fellow past President, Derek Fellows, we were grateful that our tasks were not too onerous. The show kicked off with a two- man Paarlauf, 12 minutes in duration. What a pity only two teams participated because once everyone had ‘sussed’ out how it worked it proved to be quite a close fought contest. A mixture of techniques was used, run 300m; jog back 100m or run 200m; jog across grass, adding to the interest.
On the track, 1 mile handicap races followed both for race walkers and runners, whilst field events consisted of long jumps and shot put plus welly wanging, the latter proving the most popular! Obstacle races and family shuttle relays rounded of the track events and a demonstration of tug- a – war being the afternoon’s highlight.
After all these efforts everyone fed themselves on jacket potatoes with various fillings and a substantial buffet.
Presentations to the winners were then carried out by Sue Kneill-Boxley, one of the organising team who sorted all the obstacle races, bouncy castle and who contributed in such a tremendous way.
With darkness falling, our Treasurer, Martin Wilkinson, and small team prepared the firework display. Wow! What a way to see off our 40th year, a really beautiful display and I’m sure Tamworth enjoyed it too!
The evening was rounded off with music and dancing.
All in all a very enjoyable and entertaining day. Congratulations to Adrian and his team for organising such a great event.
I’m off now with a little break with the family in Cornwall, so the full report with pictures will appear on the dedicated page in a couple of weeks, my apologies for this delay. But I thought it important to get this post uploaded.
Please feel free to make comments on this or the dedicated page and I’ll do my best to get them all approved before I am back in action.
