I am starting to research the development of the badge used for the various awards in the Birmingham & District XC League over the years to record for posterity.
I would like to ask for help on a couple of fronts from your more “senior” members.
Firstly I am seeking examples of Midland club badges that have included a “wooden gate” as part of the design.
I seem to vaguely recall that older clubs such as Small Heath Harriers or Lozells Harriers may have had this. There may have been others. If so does anyone have a good quality drawing, photograph or picture (or could take one/scan one) of each badge for me? The badge may be on a letterhead, vest, blazer tracksuit or other item of memorabilia.
My second appeal is to try and trace the various specific designs used for BDXCL medals over the years since 1925 when the league was formed. I understand that the basic design was probably standard across all divisions and placements (1st, 2nd 3rd etc). I have examples from the 1930’s & 40’s but would like to obtain any other variations that may have existed.
What was the badge like in the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s & 90’s and up to the present day? Did it in fact differ?
Ideally I want to obtain good quality digital photographs that show the detail of each medal. I can take photographs if I can borrow the medals so if people are willing to lend them to me I would be very grateful to know.
If any of our members can help please contact Chris direct on tipton.harrier@yahoo.co.uk
Photographic Exhibition
The Photographer, Alex Rotas, has an Exhibition of her photos that she took at the European VAA Track & Field Championships last August plus other action photos now showing at Aston University, Birmingham, (main building on the Aston Triangle, lower foyer), from 1 Nov-January.

This is a very important appeal for volunteers to help us at the National Masters Road Relays to be held at Sutton Park on Saturday, 12th May 2012.
Because the event clashes with the County Track & Field Championships we are desperately short of Officials. We need timekeepers, recorders, funnel recorders and anyone who can help with the start and finish procedures. Anyone who feels they can help us out then please in the first instance contact Mike Wrenn on mike.wrenn@blueyonder.co.uk
I am also compiling a list of Marshals; any member interested in helping out here should please contact me on mmac.sec@blueyonder.co.uk
I currently have 15 places to fill spread between the two races.
If we cannot get the required number of people then the event will be in danger of being called off.
Please try to help if you can.

MMAC Annual 5 Mile Handicap. Too late now to enter our handicap 5 miler taking place this coming Sunday at Kingshurst, Birmingham within the Centurion Grand Prix Series. We have received 22 men’s entries and 7 women’s entries. A little disappointing when you work out what percentage this is of the total membership. However, we are all going to have fun, don’t forget the thermals!!
Members may be interested in the chance to train on the indoor track at the NIA, Birmingham at certain times during February. You should visit http://tinyurl.com/7edswxq for all the details which can be accessed by clicking “read more”.
All the results plus a link to the photographs can be viewed on the BMAF Blog site at http://britishmastersaf.wordpress.com/
It’s that time of year again!! After our own Road Relays that take place this coming weekend, I have to start thinking of the BMAF National Open Road Relays at Sutton Park on the 21st May. Here we have to supply a bare minimum of 11 marshals. There are two races, am & pm, so if some marshals can only do one race then potentially I need 22 people.
If any of you that intend to be at Sutton Park but cannot run, then please consider helping out with the marshalling, even if it’s for only one race.
All details on where to sign in etc. will be sent to you beforehand and there will be a subsistence allowance paid. Some marshals will be required to have a radio so that contact can be made with the race start. These are easy to operate, so don’t be afraid!
If you feel that you will be able to help then please contact me by email on mmac.sec@blueyonder.co.uk
