RUNBRITAIN LAUNCHES REVOLUTIONARY ONLINE SCORING FOR ROAD RUNNERS
runbritain has today announced the launch of its revolutionary new handicap scoring system designed to give road runners of all abilities the ability to benchmark their progress and compare their results across a range of distances and terrains.
The scoring system, which has been developed in conjunction with the team behind the McCain Power of 10 website, enables runners to claim a ranking score based on any single performance at 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon distances, and allow them to make comparisons against fellow runners of varying degrees of ability. It also offers guidance and support on future racing selections and opportunities to improve current runbritain handicap scores.
Visit the runbritain website at http://www.runbritain.com/home/ for more information and to claim your handicap ranking and you will be provided with a bespoke personal running biog page on www.runbritain.com featuring:
· current rankings at each distance
· personal progress graph
· direct comparisons with other runners with a ?head-to-head? function
· handicap score updated automatically after each run
· target times to bring score down by 1.0 handicap points
· and much much more!
A reminder to take part in a very useful survey…….
My name is Paul Astles I am a post graduate student at Leeds Metropolitan University, England. I am currently studying for an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology and I am planning on undertaking my thesis around Masters Athletes. Specifically, the aim of my research would be to investigate attitudes towards supplement use (for example, the research asks questions about what supplements are taken, perceived health or performance benefits of supplements and sources of advice regarding supplementation).
The data collection for this research is going to be an online questionnaire. The link to the questionnaire pack is beneath this text, simply copy and paste into your browser to go straight to questionnaire pack and begin. It is important that you read the first page of the questionnaire pack as this will hopefully answer any questions that you have regarding the benefits of the research. There are contact details on that first page should you have any further questions regarding the questionnaires or the research.

Relays at Horspath – 11/12th September
In conjunction with the combined events at Horspath, Oxford on September 11th and 12th, it has been decided to add a series of 4x800m and 4x1500m relays to the programme. This will give our athletes an opportunity to fill in the gaps in the British records, and possibly even mount an attempt on the world record in one or two age groups.
At the moment we are canvassing for interest, so there is no specific timetable set down. Meet Manager Bruce Charles has asked me to coordinate the relay entries so that we can establish a timetable of events.
I would be grateful if regional secretaries would publicise the relays within their area, and ask interested athletes to contact me directly. They can either organise a team of four themselves, or just enter individually and I will combine into teams’ cross-area.
Information I need is athlete’s name, region, age group on September 10 and email address.
Entry cost per athlete will be ₤2.
Many thanks
John Oldfield (MMAC)

I went along to the third Park Run at Brueton Park, Solihull this morning to have a look at what goes on and to take a few photos. Brueton Park is a beautiful park and ideal for these relaxed, free, 5k runs that are intended for all ages and abilities. Over 50 runners took part beating the showers and all having a good time. Volunteers are sought after, so anyone willing to give up a few hours of their time are welcome. Please see the website at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/brueton/
