New Milton Keynes Marathon
29th April 2012

The time is right, next year, British Olympic Year, sees a major new marathon come to Milton Keynes.

This is a city marathon with a difference.  With 4,500 acres of woodlands, lakesides, parks and landscaped areas within the city boundary, Milton Keynes is the ideal venue for a Green Marathon.

The course is traffic free on closed roads and cycle paths or “redways” as they are known locally and without any significant incline there is real PB potential for all participants.

MMAC Relays & AGM

Important – Please Read…..

I’ve only just found out the confusion on how many legs are to be run for the M35-44 & M45-54 age groups.

The entry form said 4 legs but the Newsletter said 3 legs for the M45-54 and I didn’t spot it. Therefore some Clubs have entered 4 athletes and some 3. The decision has been made to keep to the M35-44 as 4 legs and the M45-54 as 3 legs, this avoids teams turning up with a runner short.

We are trying to keep to the BMAF 10 year age groups and the changes have caused some confusion.

Apologies for this error and I hope that it doesn’t spoil your participation.

One final appeal…. please do your best to attend the AGM after the presentation of prizes for the relays.

BMAF National Open Masters Road Relays

Volunteers Required

It’s that time of year again!! After our own Road Relays that take place this coming weekend, I have to start thinking of the BMAF National Open Road Relays at Sutton Park on the 21st May. Here we have to supply a bare minimum of 11 marshals. There are two races, am & pm, so if some marshals can only do one race then potentially I need 22 people.

If any of you that intend to be at Sutton Park but cannot run, then please consider helping out with the marshalling, even if it’s for only one race.

All details on where to sign in etc. will be sent to you beforehand and there will be a subsistence allowance paid. Some marshals will be required to have a radio so that contact can be made with the race start. These are easy to operate, so don’t be afraid!

If you feel that you will be able to help then please contact me by email on mmac.sec@blueyonder.co.uk

Virgin London Marathon 2011

With only a week to go all the hard work should have been put in, so an easy week ahead!

Can I wish all the members who were successful in gaining a Club place this year the very best of luck for the big day. I hope all goes well with no problems and hope you all have a stress free pre-race week. In addition to the 5 members who were lucky for a Club place after being rejected, I’m sure we will have many who will be representing their UKA Clubs. If you let me know I will endeavor to  recognize you on the results page http://bit.ly/faVmQO

Our 5 members are: –

  • M3309   Trevor Allport
  • M3434    John Keegan
  • M3449    Nicholas Blackham
  • W0496    Lesley Keighley
  • M3396     Simon McNamee

I’ll be busy at our relays and AGM but will record the marathon to watch later. I shall be looking closely for the MMAC Club Vests, white with the vertical red stripe. Run well and achieve your goals.

Warwickshire Road Race League (WRRL) Announce New Website

Warwickshire Road Race League (WRRL) News

It is impossible for us to reach every athlete in the County so please distribute this mail to your Members who are interested in road running.
(1)  New dedicated web site for the League
We am pleased to tell you that the WRRL now has its own web site. To reach it, go to the County web site at www.WarwickshireCountyAA.co.uk and click on “Road Race League” on the left hand side, or you can go directly to http://tinyurl.com/69lzecc
Please build a link to it into your Club web sites.
The site has a lot of information about how the League works and what it offers in terms of races and prizes. Once the League gets underway it will also show you the points scores for every athlete and every team after every race so you can see how you are performing.
Many thanks to Richard Carney for setting up the new site.
(2)  New scoring system.
We have developed what we hope will be an efficient scoring system which should help us put up to date League scores on the web site much quicker than was possible in the past. Even so we will be reliant of the race promoters giving us an electronic copy of their results as soon as possible after the race.
Many thanks to Mike Ellis who set up the new system and to Sean Lonergan and Richard Broooks (his colleagues at Spa Striders) who will operate it this year.
Mick Petch, who has produced the results single handed for the past ten years, will use his extensive knowledge of the League to audit the new system.
(3)  Updated calendar of races
We have attached an updated calendar of races for the current 2011 season. There are two date changes. The Rugby 10 mile race is scheduled for October 23rd and the Kenilworth Half Marathon has moved to 4th September (to generously accommodate the Coventry City Council Half Marathon). You can also download a copy of the calendar from the new web site.
The first race is the Regency Run which is already sold out. If you have missed the boat but would like to run let one of us (Geoff Wheeler or Ray Morgan) know immediately.
The second race is the Northbrook 10k for which we have attached an entry form.
Full details are available on the Club web site at www.NorthbrookAC.org.uk
The third race is the Two Castles which is also already sold out. If you have missed the boat on this one use the event web site to add yourself to the waiting list which will be reviewed nearer the race date. Do NOT contact us directly about it.
(4)  What next
The 2011 season gets underway on Sunday 10th April with the Regency 10k. The first of nine league races. Please do your utmost to get your club members to enter as many races as they can. Promoting clubs deserve their support and previous results clearly indicate that the clubs with the most runners usually do well in the team competitions.

So why not circulate the league calendar around your membership giving them plenty of time to get their entries in.

We hope to generate as much interest as we can by keeping the new scoring system up to date on the website where your members can clearly see their positions in the league.

Good luck to everyone and may the best woman/man/teams win.

Geoff Wheeler – Chairman Warwickshire Road Race League

Ray Morgan – Chairman Warwickshire County AA
