MMAC 10km Champs 2018 – Trentham 5th August
The closing date, of 29th July, for this year’s MMAC 10km Champs is fast approaching!
This year our 10km race is incorporated into the BMAF 10km race as it is being held in the Midlands, at Trentham, nr Stoke on Trent. The fee is £15 and there is no additional fee for MMAC. Enter via: bmaf.opentrack.run This is an individual championship for MMAC with medals in the 5 year age groups 35+ for men and If you are a member of MMAC you will automatically be entered into the MMAC championship when you enter the BMAF race.(There is a team event as part of the BMAF championships). Outdoor Inter Area Results 2018
The footie may not have come home but Masters Athletics has, to the Midlands!
Well done both MMAC Women and Men, winning the England Athletics Masters Outdoor Inter Area competition last weekend in Sunday’s blistering heat!

MMAC T&F Champs 3rd June
Just a reminder that the Midland Masters Track & Field Championships is fast approaching! This year we are combining with the Welsh Masters Athletics Championships, who will be joining us at Nuneaton on 3rd June.
Results will be separated however, hopefully, joining forces will provide us with more competition and officials.

Bob Matthews
We have received news that Bob Matthews, who competed for Leamington Vets, died a few days ago.
Robert Matthews, MBE, competed in blind middle- and long-distance events. He won eight gold medals across seven Paralympic Games, and has been referred to as an “iconic athlete”.
Some of you may have known Bob and there is quite a lot of information about his achievements on the internet re: his many medals in international competitions including para Olympics for blind athletes.
We pass on our condolences to his family.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT THE 46TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE MMAC WILL TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY 15 APRIL 2018 AT 11.30 AM AT SOLIHULL LEISURE CENTRE, BLOSSOMFIELD ROAD, SOLIHULL
Motions to be discussed at the AGM must be sent, in writing, to the Secretary, Jill Lamb, to arrive at least two weeks before the meeting. Cross Country 2018
Mary Wixey SWVAC
It is with sadness we record the passing of our oldest active female athlete on 21st December. Mary Wixey would have been 97 this month. Mary’s funeral will take place at 11am on Tuesday 23rd at St.Gregory the Great Church, St.James’ Square, Cheltenham GL50 3PR. All are welcome at the church. Followed by cremation at Cheltenham Crematorium attended by family and close friends only. Donations in Mary’s memory can be made to Alzheimers Research UK and sent c/o Mason & Stokes Funeral Services, Tudor Lodge, 54 Hewlett Road, Cheltenham GL52.
When Mary retired from teaching she took up a second career competing in athletics around the world. In 1996, aged 74 she could jump further in both the long jump and the triple jump than anyone in the world of her age. Aged 85, competing in the European and World Vet Championships. Aged 91, carrying the Olympic torch in Cheltenham – her proudest moment. She returned from World Masters Athletics Championships in Finland in 2012 having won 5 silver medals for 60m spring, discus, shot put, javelin and long jump.
