You obviously have a passion for masters athletics but do you also have a flare for writing; an eye for copy layout and IT skills? Do you have networking and communications skills to expand the magazine into a full online news service for masters athletics in the UK, covering the website and social media?

If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join a committed team who run the most successful section of British athletics. Our IT Manager and the current Editor will offer you every assistance including passing on Photo Gallery etc. for your computer. You will receive an annual Honorarium of £2,200.

Reports and Results will be submitted to you by our four Event Secretaries; news and information from Senior Executive members and photos from our Photographers. You will need to manage a small database of subscribers.

Athletics Officials Course – one week to go!


There are spaces on the H&S and Track module at the Athletics Officials course coming up soon (next Saturday 17th October) in Cheltenham.  There is only 1 week left to accept bookings for this course, so please encourage anyone who would like to book on to send in an application form as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

The costs for the courses are:

£30 – Full Level 2 Course – includes Health & Safety, Generic and Track

£10 – Health & Safety Module only – (for current Level 2+ officials)

Who should go on this course?

This course is suitable for all new officials from the ages of 14+ to attend (officials can only gain a licence card and DBS from 16+). Candidates work under the supervision of a qualified official in a specific discipline (Track, Field, Timekeeping, etc) before becoming a qualified technical official.

How many days will it take?

One day, with no assessment.

 What will I learn?

After completing the course candidates will have a knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Appropriate attire/equipment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role
  • Ability to follow duty sheet.
  • List events/roles covered
  • Health and Safety
  • Relationships with other officials and athletes
  • Knowledge and application of rules
  • Ability to make quick and correct decisions
  • Presentation and accuracy of result card
  • Judging (including lap charts) (Track)
  • Operation of wind gauge, lap boards and bells (Track)
  • Use of flags at break-line and take-over boxes (Track)
  • How to become a club, county or regional official and gain your officials licence

What will I be able to do?

After completing the course candidates will need to gain experience by attending four athletics meetings, operating under the supervision of a qualified UKA Technical Official.  These experiences should be recorded and submitted to England Athletics to show evidence of undertaking a variety of roles.  A DBS check will also be required following which a Level 2 Club Officials Licence will be issued. By undertaking further experiences and completing a log book, Club Officials can progress to qualify as a County, Regional or National Official.

Currently we have very few MMAC members entered, thus the closing date has been extended to Wednesday. Warwickshire Road Race League AGM


May be of relevance/interest to some members:
Please be aware that the AGM of the Warwickshire Road Race League (WRRL) will be on Monday 9th November starting at 7.30 in the Coventry Godiva Harriers Club room.
 
The main purpose of the AGM is
    to consider new rules or rule changes
    to elect League Officers
    to present trophies and medals to the successful athletes and clubs
    to consider which races will count towards the League in 2016
 
If you would like to suggest a rule change or nominate somebody to serve as an League Officer you must let me know before October 22nd. Similarly, if you would like your race to be considered in 2016 please confirm to me by October 22nd.
 
Please forward this information to your athletes who competed in the League and encourage as many as possible to attend – especially if they have a medal to collect.
