British Masters’ Medical Services

THE ANNUAL MASTERS MEDICAL TEAM FUND RAISING WEEKEND AT WORTLEY HALL IS TO TAKE PLACE ON 30th-31st OCTOBER.

Funds raised will contribute to physio, chiro and massage services provided to masters athletes at competitions.

The conference, which will be run by Dr Steve Peters, examines “serial killers and psychopaths”.  Steve’s chimp model discussed in previous conferences will not be directly covered, but he will still explore aspects of human behaviour. The emphasis is on a fun and informative weekend.  Please see the attached file for more information. Wortley Hall – 301010
Should you be interested, it is recommended that you book early as places will fill quickly
Thank you for your support and we hope you are able to join us for a fun weekend at Wortley Hall.

Park Run – Solihull

I went along to the third Park Run at Brueton Park, Solihull this morning to have a look at what goes on and to take a few photos. Brueton Park is a beautiful park and ideal for these relaxed, free, 5k runs that are intended for all ages and abilities. Over 50 runners took part beating the showers and all having a good time. Volunteers are sought after, so anyone willing to give up a few hours of their time are welcome. Please see the website at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/brueton/

Coaching & Leadership Courses

Dear Colleague

Please find attached the flyer for the coaching and leadership courses set for the autumn as part of UKA’s new coaching pathway – please can you circulate to your members/coaches/volunteers.  As you will notice there is only a limited number of the new Coach Award courses at present, this is mainly due to making sure it is delivered in the most professional way and UKA want to make sure everything is in place before increasing the number of courses available.  I have attached the flyer in the older version of Word to ensure everyone can open the file.

You will notice on the flyer and website there is a separate cost for those clubs affiliated to England Athletics as we are offering a subsidy to all affiliated clubs who have coaches attending courses and they will need their affiliation number to book on the course and get the discount.

I have attached the course booking form for all courses to assist you in booking. education-course-booking-form-v3a Current Coach Ed Prog Mids.SW

If you have any queries please see the links below or contact me on the email or phone number below.

Please ask your members/volunteers to book early to avoid disappointment as some of the courses do have information to read before attending the course.

Benefits of Supplements to Master Athletes

Hello,
My name is Paul Astles I am a post graduate student at Leeds Metropolitan University, England. I am currently studying for an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology and I am planning on undertaking my thesis around Masters Athletes. Specifically, the aim of my research would be to investigate attitudes towards supplement use (for example, the research asks questions about what supplements are taken, perceived health or performance benefits of supplements and sources of advice regarding supplementation).
The data collection for this research is going to be an online questionnaire. The link to the questionnaire pack is beneath this text, simply click on it or copy and paste into your browser to go straight to the questionnaire pack and begin. It is important that you read the first page of the questionnaire pack as this will hopefully answer any questions that you have regarding the benefits of the research. There are contact details on that first page should you have any further questions regarding the questionnaires or the research.
