Entries for the BMAF 10k Track Championships were well down this year and subsequently our own involvement with the event was also very low. Over the last few years we have used the BMAF event as the MMAC Championships and for the future we need to know our member’s opinions on this. Please fill in the poll, it only takes seconds and will help us greatly.
The Poll has now closed. There were a total of 83 votes and the results can be seen below. The majority had a preference to include the 10,000m in our Track & Field Championships although this was not overwhelming. During the Poll a further two options were suggested, a dedicated race on another date and incorporating our 10,000m with an existing event but not the BMAF one. Both of these options have financial implications both for competitors and for MMAC.
The results of this Poll plus the suggestions will be discussed at our next committee meeting in November, where we will have to make a final decision. Meanwhile, check out the results below and feel free to make comments on this page.
Although I voted for a 10k to be included in the MMAC Championships probably the only way this could work is if the championships were over two days which is no doubt impractical in terms of cost and manpower. If it was all held on the one day athletes would have to choose between the 5k and 10k and you would not want to see a reduction in the 5f field given that there were only about 12 athletes in this years V35-V60 mens race.
The alternative is to have a separate race one evening perhaps somehow incorporated in one of the Vets league meetings.
Peter, Thanks for your comments. As you will see from the votes so far, including a 10k in our T&F Champs is the majority vote. However, this is not set in stone and the organising committee will have the final say. Personally I don’t believe having the option of both races on one day will work but having a dedicated date does have financial implications. I don’t think including in the Vets League would go down well because of time restraints on their programme. You must remember that the Vets League is a totally different organisation to Midland Masters AC. I will make sure your comments are included in our deliberations.
