MMAC Relays & Handicap Walk

MMAC Relay & Handicap Walk

We have finally decided on a new venue for our annual open relays and handicap walk. On the 15th April 2012 they will take place at Donisthorpe Woodland Park, Church Street, Donisthorpe DE12 7PX. This is a lovely woodland and grassland area created from the former Donisthorpe Colliery which closed in 1990. The surface paths are suitable for walkers and cyclists and of course, runners. Part of the chosen course goes along the restored Ashby Canal towpath that leads on to the Moira Furnace. This is a totally off road course.

There is a large Car Park and the venue has limited changing facilities, so it’s an advantage to come ready changed. Refreshments also will be available and the centre does a Sunday Carvery Lunch, it’s essential therefore that you indicate on the entry form how many lunches you will require so that the food doesn’t run out!!

Prices for the Carvery are:- Adults £6.50 & Children £3.50

A Bar is available for after race drinks.

The relays are open to non-members and will consist of the usual format. A two lap 5k relay leg with 4 to run for the M35-44 & M45-54 teams. The M55-M64; M65-M74; M75+; W35-W44; W45-W54 and W55+ are ALL 3 legs.

There will be prizes for ‘A’ & ‘B’ Teams and for fastest leg. The extent of the prize list will be dependent on the number of entries. There will also be a special prize for the Composite Team of the Day.

Entry fees are £12.00 per team for the M35-54 and £9.00 per team for all other teams. The individual entry fee is £3.00 each.

  1. Thanks Andy for your kind comments, they are much appreciated. Hopefully we can build on yesterday’s efforts. Over the years this event has gone to several venues, Tamworth; Sutton Park; Chasewater and Edgbaston Reservoir and I believe this venue to be the best. I know it’s not on the road but I personally think that’s the attraction. Marshal feedback at the moment all say that the public were very friendly, an experience we have not had elsewhere.

I am sure will build in later years when more become aware of this great team event. Thank You – will look forward to next year. AC Hatton Darts
