Road Race Best Performances – apologies for delayed update

 In response to the provisional list of MMAC all time road race best performances published in the September 2011 Newsletter, MMA 228, we have received a good number of claims to faster times than those listed.  I have to apologise for the delay in publishing an updated list, but major events outside my control meant that I had to put the job of verifying the results to one side during the last couple of months.

All the claims received are in hand and will now be verified as soon as possible, with an updated list to be published on the MMAC website, and in a future Newsletter if space allows.  Suffice it to say that there will definitely be several changes in the revised listing.

We are assembling a list of all time road race best performances by MMAC/MVAC members, similar to the one for UK best performances by age group produced by the BMAF, available on its website. See http://tinyurl.com/3bd9qlw

The provisional MMAC list (download from here Road records V4.AL update 060911 ) has been extracted primarily from back numbers of the Midland Master Athlete/Midland Veteran Athlete, but so far only going back to 1986 (edition No. 99).  MMAC names spotted in the BMAF list and in the results of certain recent races in the Midlands have also been included.  We plan to create a similar list for race walking best performances in due course.

We are now asking for your help in identifying omissions and any errors in the provisional list, particularly any performances in the period from the Club’s foundation in 1972 up to 1986 that have not been bettered since.

To qualify for inclusion the result must meet the following criteria:

• achieved by someone who was a paid-up MMAC/MVAC member on the race date
• the race appropriately licensed and the course accurately measured (but it does not have to have been a Masters/Veterans Championship event)
• suitable official evidence for the result provided, e.g. a copy of or reference to publication in a source such as Athletics Weekly or Masters Athletics, or a link to results on the race organizer’s website
